Fille de Vegas II

Nude, Nevada, 2011

The Nevada desert is a place where I’ve photographed many times, due to the fact that I have family living in the Las Vegas area and consequently visit there several times a year.
So it was that in June of this year I wandered out into the Nevada desert outside of Las Vegas to work with filledevega.  I had photographed her in January of this year inside a small New York hotel room., but a simple hotel room cannot compete with the grandeur and beauty of the desert for making an interesting photographic backdrop.
This was a late afternoon photo session, so the sun got lower and lower to the horizon as we continued to work. This is the time of the day to get some beautiful, dramatic side lighting, and that is indeed what we got.  I noticed a beautiful shaft of light falling onto the top of the large rock seen here, with both the front side of the rock and the background behind it in the shadows. I knew that if fille got up on that rock, she would be highlighted by the light against the shadows behind her.
So it was.
